Tory Lanez suffers lung collapse after prison stabbing

Tory Lanez’s team has issued an official statement after reports surfaced Monday night that the Canadian rapper (real name Daystar Peterson) had been attacked in prison.

The statement shared on Lanez’s Instagram account detailed the incident involving a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution: “Tory sustained a total of 14 stab wounds — with 7 injuries to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 on the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed as a result of the assault, requiring him to be placed on a breathing machine. Thankfully, he is now able to breathe without assistance. Though he remains in considerable pain, he is speaking normally, maintaining a positive attitude, and feels immensely grateful to God for his recovery progress. He also extends his heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.”

A representative from the California Correctional Institution provided a statement in response to the incident as well, which read: “Around 7:20 a.m. today, Daystar Peterson was assaulted by another inmate within a housing unit at the California Correctional Institution (CCI) located in Tehachapi. Correctional staff responded immediately, called 911, and administered emergency medical care. Peterson was then transferred to an external medical facility for additional treatment. The Investigative Services Unit at CCI, along with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, has launched an investigation into the matter. Additionally, the Office of the Inspector General has been informed.”

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his conviction for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
