Nelly arrested on charges of possession of ecstasy, failing to obtain insurance

Rapper Nelly was arrested on Wednesday, August 7 in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

A spokesperson for the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed to Variety that Nelly (real name is Cornell I. Haynes Jr.) was leaving the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights near St. Louis at around 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday when he was stopped for ID verification by the Missouri Gaming Commision.

TMZ reports that upon searching Nelly’s car, Missouri State Highway officers also discovered ecstasy pills, leading them to charge the entertainer for drug possession. The rapper, 49, was subsequently arrested for a previous warrant he had under his name for failing to appear for an outstanding warrant for a traffic violation. (per NBC NEWS.) Nelly was then transported to the Maryland Heights Police Department and was ultimately released.

Nelly just recently completed a trek across the United States as the supporting act for Janet Jackson’s summer leg of her “Together Again” tour, with the last date Nelly playing on July 30 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Nelly and his new wife, singer Ashanti, also recently revealed they were married last December. The couple are also expecting their first child together.
